VERIZON FOUNDATION PROVIDES $9,000 GRANT T0 JADEN’S LADDER TO SUPPORT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE INITIATIVES
Organizations’ Common Vision Helps Victims Re-Establish Lives Through Job Training and Self Reliance Programs
Rye, NH – April 30, 2007 -Jaden’s Ladder, a non profit organization that assists survivors of domestic violence, today announced that it has received a grant from The Verizon Foundation for $9,000. The Verizon Foundation supports programs that move women from domestic violence shelters to the workplace, providing the needed tools and support to help them gain the confidence and independence necessary to succeed and improve their situation.
Current statistics on the widespread prevalence of domestic violence in the United States are staggering. “In fact, one in four women will be a victim of domestic violence during her lifetime. Domestic violence is also the single greatest cause of injury to women ages 15 to 44 in the United States - more than muggings, car accidents and rapes combined,” said Jill Healey Wurm, The Verizon Foundation. “The Verizon Foundation is dedicated to providing funds to organizations like Jaden’s Ladder that help survivors of domestic violence to create a better future by improving job skills and developing the confidence and self reliance to live a healthy, safe life.”
“By providing survivors with educational opportunities, mentoring and entrepreneurial funding, as well as the bare essentials that support a lifestyle that is independent and self reliant, Jaden’s Ladder remains focused on stopping the cycle of domestic violence,” said Oneta Bobbett, co-founder, Jaden’s Ladder. “We are especially pleased to receive this grant from The Verizon Foundation, as it will greatly help us to continue to fund these essential programs.”
Jaden’s Ladder offers a number of fundraising activities during the year and will be hosting its annual benefit, “A Summer’s Night Dream”, on Saturday, May 19, 2007 from 5:00pm-12:00am at the Wentworth Country Club in Rye, NH.
